CrossFit breaks down into three tenets:

  • Constantly Varied
  • Functional Movements
  • Performed at High Intensity

CrossFit is the methodology that we incorporate for our group classes and is composed of constantly changing mix of Bodyweight movements, Gymnastics movements, Olympic Lifting, Power Lifting, Kettlebell Training, and Cardiovascular development. CrossFit is currently the fastest growing fitness movement in the world for a very good reason – RESULTS. If your goal is to get in the best shape of your life, then CrossFit is the fastest way to get there.

The focus with CrossFit training is to significantly raise our athlete’s level of general physical preparedness (GPP). This is not specialized or sport specific training although the crossover to every sport is considerable.

Think of GPP as the foundation below all of your life and athletic endevours. The foundation of a Division 1 Collegiate athlete or that of a professional athlete is extremely sound. The foundation of most people who have been away from organized sports for more than a year or two is unfortunately, extremely unsound.[custom_frame_right]bw_workingout2[/custom_frame_right]

By implementing the variety inherent in CrossFit training and focusing on:

Endurance – The ability of body systems to gather, process and deliver oxygen
(cardiovascular/respiratory endurance).
Stamina – The ability of body systems to process, deliver, store and utilize energy (capacity to maintain repetitive muscular movements).
Strength – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply force.
Flexibility – The ability to maximize the range of motion at a given joint.
Power – The ability of a muscular unit, or combination of units, to apply maximum force in minimumtime.
Speed – The ability to minimize the time cycle of a repeated movement.
Coordination – The ability to combine several distinct movement patterns into a single, distinct movement.
Agility – The ability to minimize transition time from one movement pattern to another.
Balance – The ability to control the placement of the body’s center of gravity in relation to its support base.
Accuracy – The ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity.

Our athletes begin to see the holes in their foundation filled in rather quickly as well as feeling that foundation become stronger than they ever could have imagined. At this point the transference into their particular sports and every day lives is inherently clear.

By organizing CrossFit classes into group workouts, the elements most missed by former team sport athletes returns. Camaraderie, competition, teamwork, and laugh out loud fun are as integral to a healthy fitness program as form, and proper programming.

Best gym in Santa Barbara! The coaches are outstanding. Every class has mobility and skills work in addition to the killer WOD/”Workout of the Day”. If you haven’t tried Crossfit, this is a great gym to join. They give a free baseline test and introduction session. I don’t even know where to begin for the ways that CPC has changed my life. Mid 30’s (shhhh, don’t tell anyone), and I am in the best shape I’ve ever been. I joined to enhance my performance as a runner, but never anticipated I would love it so much (I, traditionally, HATE the gym). And running? Forget it! I’m blowing my race PRs out of the water, all thanks to the constantly challenging and interesting programming at CPC.

Probably more impactful than just the physical benefits (which friends are constantly complimenting me on), CPC has taught me that I am capable of achieving way more if I push through my own mental blocks/doubts. I know these aren’t words that most folks would associate with CrossFit, but I can honestly say it’s been life-changing for me in Mind, Body AND Spirit.

But the very best part of CPC is the community. Hands down. I love being around and am truly inspired by my fellow CPCers who are like-minded, passionate people – that I can now call friends.
